K-Drama Mini Reviews

Athena: Goddess of War

Pros:

Tons of action, good cinematography, and fairly consistent acting. It seemed to have a more evolving storyline compared to “IRIS”.

Cons:

I don’t know why but it seemed to lack emotion. It also felt a little long at 20 episodes

Rating:

7/10

Dream High

Pros:

If you like Kpop and Kpop idols than you will probably like Dream High. I liked it WAY more than I thought I would. I thought for a bunch of young actors they pulled it off pretty well.

Cons:

I can’t think of anything that really bothered me….so

Rating:

8/10

Rock Rock Rock

Pros:

A great little biopic on Boohwal guitarist Kim TaeWon. Good music and a great performance by No Min Woo.

Cons:

I wish it was longer and included the whole history of the band Boohwal, instead of only the most dramatic parts.

Rating:

8/10

2010 Drama Reviews

This isn’t a full on review but more of a quick pro/con list.

**Not all shows were made in 2010 but that’s when I watched them!**

Another year of watching Kdramas comes to an end. I’ve managed to break my record from last year by watching 12 dramas!

I think I have a problem…

Last years reviews can be found HERE

In no particular order:

Invincible Lee Pyung Kang

Pros: A fun show without too much drama.

Cons: The first 3 or so episodes might be the WORST EVER. Just annoying.

Score: 6/10

La dolce vita

Pros: A more mature Kdrama with a storyline you don’t see too often

Cons: Can become painfully slow. It takes “sad” to a new level

Score: 6/10

Happiness in the Wind

Pros: I’m not gonna lie, I watched this because I have a crush on Kim So Eun. Really liked the first half of the show.

Cons: THIS SHOW MADE ME SO MAD! I know its a daily sitcom but come on! Keep it movin! Only watch this if you like one of the actors!

Score: Beginning episodes (8/10)

After they changed Kim So Eun’s hair (4/10)

Chuno

Pros: Overall it had great performances, great directing, great music. I’ll remember it fondly ^^

Cons: I wish Lee Da Hae played her character alittle differently. Can’t think of much else.

Score: 9/10

Cinderella’s Sister

Pros: Moon Geun Young was great in this one. Overall it was good, could have been great.

Cons: The storyline gets alittle annoying.

Score: 8/10

Personal Taste

Pros: Great comedic chemistry between the leads. Overall one of my top 3 from 2010!

Cons: How can you put the GORGEOUS Son Ye Jin in this and then make her always so frumpy? (she is still amazing ^^)

Score: Game Over 9/10

The Devil

Pros: Kinda like a Korean Version of “The Dead Zone”. (also has Shin Min Ah ^^)

Cons: The story leaves ALOT to be desired. Needed alittle more variety. (I think someone like No Min Woo would have made a better “Bad” guy.

Score: Shin Min Ah +1 (5/10)

Coffee House

Pros: Kang Ji Hwan, Park Shi Yeon.

Cons: Alittle hit or miss with the comedy and overall storyline.

Score: 7/10

Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child

Pros: Amazing acting, great directing, and great music!

Cons: It ended ^^

Score: 10/10

Tazza

Pros: If you like gambling shows and Go-Stop then you’ll like this one. Han Ye Seul is just stunning throughout the show. One of the more dramatic endings I’ve seen in a Kdrama.

Cons: Its Alittle longer than it needs to be. Should have been 16 episodes.

Score: 7/10

Sungkyunkwan Scandal

Pros: Easy to watch drama. I’m a sucker for the old “fighting for the underdog” character.

Cons: I wish the leads were alittle more fun, would have made my top 3. Micky just didn’t seen fun enough for me to get behind him. I thought the last scene was out of place and hurt the drama.

Score: 7/10

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

Pros: Very fun and cute. Shin Min Ah is great! The aunt and Chow Yun Fat couple are gold and I actually can stand Lee Seung Gi now lol ^^

Cons: Lee Seung Gi’s Overacting (mainly in the first few episodes)

Score: 8/10

Looks like my top favs are:

  1. Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child

  2. Chuno

  3. Personal Taste

Dramas, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

My Girlfriend is a Gumiho **Update**

Well, I’ve now watched episodes 5 and 6 and its really starting to grow on me. Lee Seung Gi has toned it down ALOT, he still does his “ButtHead” act from time to time but its been pulled back alot. Shin Min Ah has really started adding on the Aegyo cuteness which is the first time I’ve seen her play a character that way. (She is SOOOO cute)

Most of the bigger laughs (for me) have come from the Aunt and (wannabe) Chow Yun Fat. Maybe its because of my love of Chow Yun Fat movies or just the simple slapsticky nature of there encounters but it really cracks me up. I hope they keep that going for a little longer.

I’m undecided on what I think of No Min Woo ( I call him No Means No). Hope he doesnt become too bad.

Started watching “My Girlfriend is a Gumiho”

I’ve watched two episodes so far and I’m really liking it! Shin Min Ah is as gorgeous as ever. Most of the back up cast seem pretty good but I’ll have to wait and see if they get on my nerves.

The only problem so far, for me, is Lee Seung Gi’s performance. He’s very much an overactor in this and atleast half of the show he has his mouth open.

I noticed a resemblance to “ButtHead” from the old beavis and butthead cartoon show. See for your self…
