I’ve watched about 12 or so Kdramas so far this year and I think this is one of the best!
Athena: Goddess of War
Tons of action, good cinematography, and fairly consistent acting. It seemed to have a more evolving storyline compared to “IRIS”.
I don’t know why but it seemed to lack emotion. It also felt a little long at 20 episodes
If you like Kpop and Kpop idols than you will probably like Dream High. I liked it WAY more than I thought I would. I thought for a bunch of young actors they pulled it off pretty well.
I can’t think of anything that really bothered me….so
Rock Rock Rock
A great little biopic on Boohwal guitarist Kim TaeWon. Good music and a great performance by No Min Woo.
I wish it was longer and included the whole history of the band Boohwal, instead of only the most dramatic parts.
This isn’t a full on review but more of a quick pro/con list.
**Not all shows were made in 2010 but that’s when I watched them!**
Another year of watching Kdramas comes to an end. I’ve managed to break my record from last year by watching 12 dramas!
I think I have a problem…
Last years reviews can be found HERE
In no particular order:
Invincible Lee Pyung Kang
Pros: A fun show without too much drama.
Cons: The first 3 or so episodes might be the WORST EVER. Just annoying.
La dolce vita
Pros: A more mature Kdrama with a storyline you don’t see too often
Cons: Can become painfully slow. It takes “sad” to a new level
Happiness in the Wind
Pros: I’m not gonna lie, I watched this because I have a crush on Kim So Eun. Really liked the first half of the show.
Cons: THIS SHOW MADE ME SO MAD! I know its a daily sitcom but come on! Keep it movin! Only watch this if you like one of the actors!
Score: Beginning episodes (8/10)
After they changed Kim So Eun’s hair (4/10)
Pros: Overall it had great performances, great directing, great music. I’ll remember it fondly ^^
Cons: I wish Lee Da Hae played her character alittle differently. Can’t think of much else.
Pros: Moon Geun Young was great in this one. Overall it was good, could have been great.
Cons: The storyline gets alittle annoying.
Pros: Great comedic chemistry between the leads. Overall one of my top 3 from 2010!
Cons: How can you put the GORGEOUS Son Ye Jin in this and then make her always so frumpy? (she is still amazing ^^)
Score: Game Over 9/10
Pros: Kinda like a Korean Version of “The Dead Zone”. (also has Shin Min Ah ^^)
Cons: The story leaves ALOT to be desired. Needed alittle more variety. (I think someone like No Min Woo would have made a better “Bad” guy.
Score: Shin Min Ah +1 (5/10)
Pros: Kang Ji Hwan, Park Shi Yeon.
Cons: Alittle hit or miss with the comedy and overall storyline.
Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child
Pros: Amazing acting, great directing, and great music!
Cons: It ended ^^
Pros: If you like gambling shows and Go-Stop then you’ll like this one. Han Ye Seul is just stunning throughout the show. One of the more dramatic endings I’ve seen in a Kdrama.
Cons: Its Alittle longer than it needs to be. Should have been 16 episodes.
Pros: Easy to watch drama. I’m a sucker for the old “fighting for the underdog” character.
Cons: I wish the leads were alittle more fun, would have made my top 3. Micky just didn’t seen fun enough for me to get behind him. I thought the last scene was out of place and hurt the drama.
My Girlfriend is a Gumiho
Pros: Very fun and cute. Shin Min Ah is great! The aunt and Chow Yun Fat couple are gold and I actually can stand Lee Seung Gi now lol ^^
Cons: Lee Seung Gi’s Overacting (mainly in the first few episodes)
Looks like my top favs are:
Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child
Well, I’ve now watched episodes 5 and 6 and its really starting to grow on me. Lee Seung Gi has toned it down ALOT, he still does his “ButtHead” act from time to time but its been pulled back alot. Shin Min Ah has really started adding on the Aegyo cuteness which is the first time I’ve seen her play a character that way. (She is SOOOO cute)
Most of the bigger laughs (for me) have come from the Aunt and (wannabe) Chow Yun Fat. Maybe its because of my love of Chow Yun Fat movies or just the simple slapsticky nature of there encounters but it really cracks me up. I hope they keep that going for a little longer.
I’m undecided on what I think of No Min Woo ( I call him No Means No). Hope he doesnt become too bad.
I’ve watched two episodes so far and I’m really liking it! Shin Min Ah is as gorgeous as ever. Most of the back up cast seem pretty good but I’ll have to wait and see if they get on my nerves.
The only problem so far, for me, is Lee Seung Gi’s performance. He’s very much an overactor in this and atleast half of the show he has his mouth open.
I noticed a resemblance to “ButtHead” from the old beavis and butthead cartoon show. See for your self…
Well, 2009 is over and I managed to watch 11 Dramas! When I first thought back on the year I guessed I had watched 5-6. But after some review my number doubled!
This isn’t a full on review but more of a quick recap list.
**Not all shows were made in ’09 but thats when I watched them!**

now onto the Dramas!
in no real order:
Surprisingly fun for a “Courtroom” Drama. I watched it mainly because I have a thing for Kim Hyun joo but continued to watch because it was fun and serious at all the right times.
Cain and Abel
I watched this because of So Ji Sub. period. He was the star of my alltime favorite drama “I’m sorry, I love you”. Fresh out the army he was making his comeback and I couldn’t wait. I have to say that this show was one of my hardest to watch shows of the year. Not only is it alittle gory (it takes place in a hospital) but the first 6-7 episodes were awful! But at ep 8 or so I REALLY started to enjoy it and ultimately liked it.
First half 2/10
Second half 7.5/10
You are my Destiny
As a fan of “Girls Generation” I almost had to watch YoonA in her big daily drama lead role. And thanks to KBS World I could! It was a slow moving show, but thats kinda what you get with a daily drama, and the leading man Park Jae Jung couldn’t even act like he was breathing.
My only Chinese show this year…
I loved Dicky as the Monkey King so I thought I would give this show a chance. Not amazing or bad. Pretty enjoyable most of the time with lots of comedy and some melodrama.
I really enjoyed Hyun Bin in a few other shows and Hyegyo was great in Full House so I thought this was a sure hit… It was a fine show, its just not very interesting. I have a hard time remembering a single scene from this one which tells me it was boring.
Take Care of Agassi
The first few episodes really had a fun playful vibe but it soon turned into a predictable Kdrama. Never been a big YEH fan and she really didn’t make me like her any more in this one. Moon Chae Won on the other hand has really surprised me with her performances so far.
Boys over Flowers
Yes, like everybody else I watched BOF. Do I regret it? NO! Mainly because I got introduced to Kim So Eun, who I think stole all the cuteness in the world and ate it. If you like eye candy and don’t think too much you will enjoy this one.
TOP 3 4
Tied for 3rd:
Story of a Man
One of my favorite shows of the year! It JUST missed being in my TOP 3. Its suspenseful and dramatic with lots of great scenes, and there is plenty of eye candy for the ladies and fellas.
My most anticipated show of ’09. Lee Byung Hun is the reason I watch Korean movies, TV Dramas, and even listen to KPOP. His movie “A Bittersweet Life” made me explore the Korean entertainment world and I’ve never looked back.
Action packed show with tons of stars and what I think is a breakout performance for Kim Tae Hee.
Painter of the Wind
One of the most visually pleasing dramas I’ve ever seen. I can’t even count how many scenes I remember simply because of how beautifully they were filmed. Great performances all around and good story. (and Moon Chae Won :-p )
A show I wasn’t even planning to watch. But because the IRIS subs weren’t going to be ready for awhile I thought I could watch something quickly. What I wasn’t ready for was how much I was going to enjoy this one. Its a very fun and lighthearted show but its charms are just too much to resist and it soon grabs you and wont let go.
Newcomer Yoo Joo Hee has been selected to play in SBS’s upcoming drama “Cain And Abel“. She will play as resident physician Nam Yong Tae working in the same hospital as So Ji Sub and Shin Hyun Joon.
The crews of the team described Yoo Joo Hee as “sophisticated, gorgeous and possesses a charming smile”. Yoo Joo Hee said: “It is my honour to be able to play alongside seniors in the drama. I will use my passion and do my best to compensate for my inexperience.
She has thrown herself into the filming of “Cain And Abel” last month after she finished filming for movie “Waterless Sea”. “Cain and Abel” will begin broadcast next month through SBS channel.
