[Movie] CJ blows up a storm with “Haeundae”

SEOUL — CJ Entertainment will bankroll and co-produce “Haeundae,” a disaster movie with one of the largest ever budgets for a Korean movie.

The company announced on Wednesday that it will provide the entire financing for the movie and act as co-producer.
Helmed by Yoon Je-kyun (“Sex Is Zero”), pic began lensing on August 18 at a beach in the southern city of Busan, familiar to visitors of the Pusan festival. Story follows events after the tourist resort is struck by a giant tsunami.

Pic is also getting attention for its star casting. Talent line-up is headed by Ha Ji-won (“Duelist”), Sul Kyung-goo (“Public Enemy Returns”), Park Joong-hoon (“Radio Star”) and Uhm Jung-hwa (“Seducing Mr. Perfect”.)

Polygon Entertainment (“The Perfect Storm” “Tomorrow”) is set to work on CGI. After conventional lensing in Busan is wrapped, crew will head to the U.S. in November for special effects photography. Pic will be wrapped in December and released in the summer of 2009.
